Howard University Hospital is a private, nonprofit teaching hospital in Washington, D.C., and the nation's only teaching hospital located on the campus of a historically Black university. Dating back to 1862 as Freedmen's Hospital, it has become one of the most comprehensive health care facilities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, providing primary, secondary and tertiary health care services, and is designated a DC Level 1 Trauma Center.
